Calling systems for supermarkets and retail

A cashier who needs a supervisor should not have to leave the till or shout down the aisle. A call button at each position sends the request straight to the person who can deal with it. Similarly, the next customer can be alerted to the next available till point with the press of a button.

A supermarket cashier presses a red assistance button at the checkout register while a line of smiling customers waits with their shopping carts

Typical call points on a retail floor

Till points

A numbered button at each till calls a supervisor for an override, a void or a cash drop.

Price checks

A call to the floor staff instead of holding the queue while someone walks to the shelf.

Packing assistance

A quick call for a packer when a queue builds up.

Customer service desks

Assistance points where customers can call for help in a department.

Deli, butchery and bakery

Service counters that are not permanently staffed.

Receiving and stockrooms

A call point so staff in the back can be reached without a PA announcement.

How the system works

Cashier to call the next customer

Each till will have a Call Button that is 100% waterproof and can be mounted on any flat surface.

Once the cashier is ready for the next customer they simply press the "Call" button and it will display their till number on the Display Panel that can be mounted within easy view of the customers waiting in the queue.

The display panel will indicate the available till number for example "012" or "009". You also have the ability to adjust the ringtone and the volume of the screen. The display panel also has the ability to call out the available till number using voice, instead of a ringtone.

You can have the display panel set to automatically cancel the call after a set period so that it does not confuse customers to think the till is open while, in fact, they have already called for a new customer to come forward.

Cashier to call Manager / Supervisor

Each till will have separate Call Button that can be mounted on any flat surface.

Should the cashier need the assistance of the Manager/Supervisor, they simply press the "Call" button, and it will display their till number on the wristwatch that will be worn by the manager or supervisor. The supervisor or manager can also have a display panel mounted in their office to show the till number that was pressed for assistance.

Receiver options and buttons for retail floors

Most stores use wristwatches for supervisors and managers, with a display panel at the till line so customers can see which till is open. If response time tracking is needed, the W900 software and B-811 Smart Gateway can be added.

Proven in South African retail

The BellMe system is used in South African retail environments, including some Pick n Pay, Clicks and Dis-Chem stores, where wireless call buttons replace shouting across the floor and PA announcements.

One display panel handles up to 256 call points and a wristwatch up to 200, so a store can identify each till or department individually. The buttons are wireless, run on an A23 battery and carry a 5-year warranty. See client testimonials.

Your BellMe setup in three steps

  1. 01

Tell us where help is needed

Share the number of call points, the rooms or areas to cover and how your staff or caregivers work.

  2. 02

    Choose your configuration

BellMe helps you choose buttons and receivers and prepares a quotation. Where coverage needs checking, an on-site inspection and test confirms the repeater requirement.

  3. 03

    Put the system to work

Position the call points and receivers for your setting, and make sure the people responding know where each call comes from and how to clear it.

Questions before choosing your system

How do I know if I need a signal repeater?

You will start needing signal repeaters when the distance between the calling point and the receiver reaches around 250 m in line of sight. The surroundings and construction of the property affect this, so the only accurate way to confirm is a site inspection and test.

What wiring does the system need?

The buttons are wireless and run on batteries. Each display panel, LED light and signal repeater needs a power source. We recommend dedicated plug points in the ceiling so they are not unplugged by mistake. Display panels and LED lights are supplied with 12 V power cables with a 2-pin plug, and the B-Q4 signal repeater with a 9V1A supply. We recommend running them through a UPS.

What warranty do BellMe products carry?

Single Key Call buttons carry 5 years while other Call buttons and panels, LED lights carry 2 years. Wristwatches and signal repeaters carry 1 year.

Is BellMe a rental or a once-off purchase?

All BellMe products are a once-off purchase. There are no rental contracts.

“Our primary reason for buying this system was for use by frail-care residents to alert nursing staff. We are very happy with the reliability, range of signal and ease of use. It's definitely a good product and an excellent way to alert staff to any arising situation. We were very happy with BellMe's excellent sales and after sales service received.”

“BellMe is a wonderful product. Having parents in their late 80s or 90s is scary for any child. My father recently broke his shoulder and without the use of his right arm he found himself stuck in a couple of situations and was calling for help for over 30 minutes. Thank goodness I came across the BellMe website. I was quickly able to purchase a device for my 89 year old mother and 92 year old father. I can rest easy knowing that all they need to do is press the button on their device and their care giver is instantly notified that they need help. The good news is that BellMe is very reasonably priced though I would gladly have paid more for the peace of mind that having my parents equipped with a BellMe device has brought me.”
