Nurse call systems for hospitals

In a ward the question is not only that someone called, but which bed called and how quickly anyone got there. A BellMe display panel at the nurses' station shows the calling point number, holds the call in a queue and can ring until it is cleared.

What makes a hospital different

A hospital ward has more call points, more staff turnover and stricter expectations around records than a home or a small care facility. When staff do not know which bed called, identifying the patient adds uncertainty for the person waiting and pressure for the team responding. The parts of the BellMe range that matter most in that setting are the display panel, the cancel button arrangement and the reporting software.

The configuration most hospitals use

B-99G Display panel at the station

The B-99G handles up to 256 call and cancel buttons, rolls between active calls, and has adjustable volume, six ringtone options and optional auto-cancel.

OR B-901 display panel at the station

For multiple wards or areas, the B-901 shows up to 16 characters and requires the W900 software and smart gateway for detailed calling information.

Bedside and bathroom call points

A single-key call button or an Integrated Call & Cancel Button with an extended Button on a cord to lay on the beds at each patient bed with waterproof call buttons in the bathrooms.

Shared cancel buttons

One cancel button can be programmed to be shared across an entire section, room,  or ward, so staff clear calls where they are rather than returning to the station.

Wristwatches for mobile staff

The B-650 wristwatch handles up to 200 call points and beeps and/or vibrates for staff who are away from the station. The watches can be worn on the arm, or on a lanyard around the neck when the straps are removed.

Signal repeaters

Long corridors and multiple floors usually need repeaters. A site inspection and live test confirms how many. Without signal repeaters, the range of the system is between 100-150 meters, depending on the surroundings.

Response-time reporting

W900 keeps active-call records and statistics, including how long calls took to answer. These reports can be exported and saved. The W900 Software can be used with any of our display panels.

About the reporting software

Clearer calls for patients and staff

Know which bed needs help

A display panel at the nurses' station identifies the calling point so staff know where assistance is needed.

Reach staff away from the station

Wristwatch receivers let nurses carry an audible and vibrating alert while moving between rooms.

Review responses with a factual record

Optional W900 reporting gives management call records and response times to review instead of relying on recollection.

Your BellMe setup in three steps

  1. 01

Tell us where help is needed

Share the number of call points, the rooms or areas to cover and how your staff or caregivers work.

  2. 02

    Choose your configuration

BellMe helps you choose buttons and receivers and prepares a quotation. Where coverage needs checking, an on-site inspection and test confirms the repeater requirement.

  3. 03

    Put the system to work

Position the call points and receivers for your setting, and make sure the people responding know where each call comes from and how to clear it.

Radio range and system planning

The BellMe Nurse Call System works on a 433 MHz radio frequency and has a range of 100–150 metres depending on the surroundings. Walls, steel, corridors and multiple floors can reduce that distance.

Where a signal falls short, B-Q4 signal repeaters extend the coverage. Their quantity and position can only be 100% confirmed with an on-site inspection and test, but we can estimate the requirement based on the distances that are provided.

Cutaway of a multi-floor care building: bedside call buttons on three floors send signals via a B-Q4 signal repeater to an overdoor LED light, a display panel at the nurse station and a nurse's wristwatch, with notes that walls, steel, corridors, stairs and multiple floors can reduce range

What the system does not do

Please read this before ordering, so the system matches what you need.

  • The system alerts nurses, caregivers or staff through the configured on-site receiver. It does not contact emergency services or an off-site response provider.
  • It does not detect falls automatically — the patient or resident must press a call button to activate the alert.
  • The BellMe nurse call system does not do mobile-phone, SMS or app notifications.
  • The nurse call system range is a calling and alert system; it does not include two-way voice communication.
  • Coverage depends on the building and surroundings. Repeater placement and quantity can be estimated but can only be confirmed on site.

Questions hospitals ask

Which products are available for a healthcare nurse call system?

The current range includes B-A1-WL and B-A1-BC single-key buttons, B-SW2 and B-SW-G33 call-and-cancel wall units, B-700 LED receivers, B-650 wristwatch receivers, B-99G and B-901 display panels, W900 desktop software and the B-Q4 signal repeater.

How far can a call button transmit?

The range is between 100–150 metres depending on the surroundings. Walls, steel and the building layout affect the signal, and an on-site test determines whether B-Q4 signal repeaters are needed. An estimation can be given based on the information provided.

Which receivers can alert healthcare staff?

A facility can use a B-99G or B-901 display panel, B-650 wristwatch receiver, B-700 LED light receiver, or a suitable combination of these products.

What is required for W900 reporting software?

The W900 desktop software requires the smart gateway, a router with an internet connection and a PC or laptop, with the components connected by LAN cables. The PC or laptop must be able to run windows 10 or higher.

Quote a hospital ward or a whole facility

Send us the number of beds, the bathroom call points and whether you need reporting. We will quote the panels, buttons and repeaters required.

“Our primary reason for buying this system was for use by frail-care residents to alert nursing staff. We are very happy with the reliability, range of signal and ease of use. It's definitely a good product and an excellent way to alert staff to any arising situation. We were very happy with BellMe's excellent sales and after sales service received.”
Justus Vermaak — Henley River Care Centre, Director
“BellMe is a wonderful product. Having parents in their late 80s or 90s is scary for any child. My father recently broke his shoulder and without the use of his right arm he found himself stuck in a couple of situations and was calling for help for over 30 minutes. Thank goodness I came across the BellMe website. I was quickly able to purchase a device for my 89 year old mother and 92 year old father. I can rest easy knowing that all they need to do is press the button on their device and their care giver is instantly notified that they need help. The good news is that BellMe is very reasonably priced though I would gladly have paid more for the peace of mind that having my parents equipped with a BellMe device has brought me.”
