BellMe

Home and elderly safety

A panic button for an elderly person living at home

An elderly parent presses one waterproof button and the caregiver or family member in the house is alerted immediately, wherever they are. It is a once-off purchase, it needs no internet, and there is nothing to pay each month.

  • No monthly contract
  • Waterproof buttons for bathrooms and showers

When calling out for help is not enough

A caregiver can be in the house without being in the same room. If an elderly parent needs help from bed, the bathroom or the shower, calling out means relying on someone being close enough to hear.

At night, the person responding may be asleep. A way to call for help needs to suit both the person pressing the button and the caregiver receiving the alert.

Be clear about what this is

This is a calling system, not a monitoring service. When the button is pressed it alerts someone who is on the property — a spouse, an adult child, a live-in caregiver or a domestic worker. It does not call an ambulance, a security company or a call centre, and it does not reach a family member who is at work across town.

That is also why there is nothing to pay monthly: you buy the equipment once and it works on its own radio signal.

Three setup solutions to choose from

Every solution starts with the same waterproof call buttons. The difference is how the caregiver is alerted.

The LED light receiver solution

A B-700 LED light plugged into a 12 V point flashes red and beeps continuously until the call is cleared. It handles up to 99 buttons and suits a caregiver who sleeps or stays in one place — the reliable choice at night. The alert from the LED Light is loud enough to be heard around the house during the day as well, or the LED Light can be moved from the caregiver's room to a central place in the house during the day.

The wristwatch receiver solution

A B-650 wristwatch on the caregiver’s wrist beeps and vibrates, so the alert travels with them as they move around the house or garden. It gives one alert tone rather than a continuous ring, so it suits daytime coverage. The alert from the wristwatch is not loud enough to wake someone from sleep. The caregiver also needs to ensure that the watch is regularly charged, as it works on battery.

The LED light and wristwatch combination

Both receivers work with the same buttons: the wristwatch covers the caregiver during the day, and the LED light covers the night. Any receiver works with any BellMe button, so additional items can be added at any time. It is also possible to use multiple of the same receiver for any of the setups selected.

How the home system works

  1. 01

    A button worn or mounted

The 100% waterproof call button is worn on a lanyard or mounted next to the bed, in the bathroom and next to the shower.

  2. 02

    One press

The soft rubber press is easy to use with limited hand mobility, and slightly indented so it is not triggered accidentally.

  3. 03

    The caregiver is alerted

An LED light plugged in elsewhere in the house flashes red and beeps loudly and continuously, or a wristwatch on the caregiver beeps and vibrates.

  4. 04

    The alert is cleared

The caregiver clears the call with the cancel button or on the wristwatch, depending on their chosen solution.

Where it is used

Home nursing and frail care

A patient in bed can call the nurse or caregiver from any room in the house without needing to be heard.

Recovery after surgery or illness

Temporary cover while someone is unsteady on their feet. The equipment is a once-off purchase, so it stays useful afterwards.

Disability support

A soft-press button that works with limited hand mobility, mounted within reach or worn on a lanyard.

Night cover

An LED light in the caregiver's room flashes and beeps continuously until the call is answered.

Bathrooms and showers

Buttons are 100% waterproof, so the bathroom — where most incidents happen — is covered too.

Large properties

Buttons transmit between 100-150 meters, depending on the surroundings. Signal repeaters extend the range over a larger area.

Panic buttons for bathrooms, showers and toilets

Most falls and moments of need at home happen in the bathroom. BellMe call buttons are 100% waterproof, so they can stay where they are needed most.

Made for wet areas

The call buttons are 100% waterproof. They can be mounted next to the shower, beside the bath or next to the toilet, and they can be worn in the shower on a lanyard.

Placement options

Mount a button on the wall within reach of the toilet or shower, place one next to the bed, or wear one on a lanyard so it moves with the person from room to room. Several buttons can work with the same receiver.

For elderly and mobility-impaired users

The soft rubber press is easy to use with limited hand mobility or grip, and it is slightly indented so it is not triggered by accident.

How the caregiver is alerted

One press sends the call to the caregiver’s receiver elsewhere in the house: a B-700 LED light that flashes red and beeps, or a B-650 wristwatch that beeps and vibrates.

Wristwatch or continuous LED alert

The wristwatch gives one alert tone and travels with the caregiver during the day. The LED light flashes and beeps continuously until the call is cleared with the cancel button, so it is the better choice at night.

What it does not do

The system does not detect falls: the person must press the button. It does not contact emergency services, a security company or a call centre. It alerts someone who is on the property.

Why families choose the LED light at night

The B-650 wristwatch is convenient during the day, but it gives one alert tone and does not ring continuously. It will not reliably wake a sleeping caregiver.

The B-700 LED light plugs into a 12 V point and flashes red with a loud, continuous beep until the call is cleared by physically pressing the cancel button. For overnight coverage in a home, this is the receiver we recommend.

Your BellMe setup in three steps

  1. 01

Tell us where help is needed

Share the number of call points, the rooms or areas to cover and how your staff or caregivers work.

  2. 02

BellMe helps you choose buttons and receivers and prepares a quotation. Where coverage needs checking, an on-site inspection and test confirms the repeater requirement.

  3. 03

    Put the system to work

Position the call points and receivers for your setting, and make sure the people responding know where each call comes from and how to clear it.

What families using BellMe say

“The BellMe system is being used for my elderly father. The system is extremely user-friendly, that is what I liked the most about the product. I recommend this product for the range it covers and the ease of use. It eliminates calling and shouting for assistance. I think the product features are perfect.”

Jeff Zurel · SANDTON

“My son-in-law ordered your watch/alarm for me when my wife became bedridden and I have found it to be most useful for keeping in touch with her when I am away from her in the house or out in the garden. It is used every day and has attracted a lot of attention from friends and potential users.”

Questions families ask

Do I need internet to use the BellMe system?

No. The system does not require an internet connection to operate. You only need internet once, to download the reporting software; after that the connection is no longer needed.

How long does a call button battery last?

Each call button takes an A23 battery, the same type used in electronic gate remotes. Battery life is typically six months to two years, depending on use. Some clients have reported batteries lasting considerably longer even.

Can the button be used in a shower or bathroom?

Yes. The call and cancel buttons are 100% waterproof and can be mounted in a shower or toilet, or worn on a lanyard.

What warranty do BellMe products carry?

Single Key Call buttons carry 5 years while other Call buttons and panels, LED lights carry 2 years. Wristwatches and signal repeaters carry 1 year.

Is BellMe a rental or a once-off purchase?

All BellMe products are a once-off purchase. There are no rental contracts.

“Our primary reason for buying this system was for use by frail-care residents to alert nursing staff. We are very happy with the reliability, range of signal and ease of use. It's definitely a good product and an excellent way to alert staff to any arising situation. We were very happy with BellMe's excellent sales and after sales service received.”
Justus Vermaak — Henley River Care Centre, Director
“BellMe is a wonderful product. Having parents in their late 80s or 90s is scary for any child. My father recently broke his shoulder and without the use of his right arm he found himself stuck in a couple of situations and was calling for help for over 30 minutes. Thank goodness I came across the BellMe website. I was quickly able to purchase a device for my 89 year old mother and 92 year old father. I can rest easy knowing that all they need to do is press the button on their device and their care giver is instantly notified that they need help. The good news is that BellMe is very reasonably priced though I would gladly have paid more for the peace of mind that having my parents equipped with a BellMe device has brought me.”
